Gaming Recap: Nintendo Direct 9.13.2022

Nintendo just released their first proper Nintendo Direct in over 7 months and with a massive onslaught of games like this it can be difficult to keep track of yours favorites but here are the 7 we are most looking forward to!

7 – Tunic:

Tunic follows a young fox in a nice green tunic (appearing somewhat like Link’s old green tunic from previous Legend of Zelda games) as he explores his world full of valuable treasures and terrifying enemies. I’ve been looking forward to Tunic for a long time. Mostly because I’m a fan of the old Zelda games and this seems reminiscent of those games. It will be nice to have a smooth modern system to have a playful adventure with a cute fox. Tunic will come to Nintendo Switch September 27th.

6 – Sifu:

Sifu is a beat ’em up that takes place in modern day China. The player follows a boy who is on a path to avenge his family’s killers. The main reason I’m looking forward to Sifu is the unique method in which you gain abilities. Each time you fail you age up one year, but gain new knowledge and abilities with age. I can’t wait to become a superpower old person in Sifu! Sifu releases to Nintendo Switch November 8th 2022.

5 – Endless Dungeon:

Endless Dungeon is one of the highlights of the rogue-lite genre. It sports both shockingly impressive graphics for a rogue-lite and far more in depth combat than its contemporaries. You get placed in an abandoned space station, forced to fight for materials and upgrades to escape the space station. Each character you control is unique, from bulky robots, to botanical plague doctors, and four armed outlaws. Endless dungeon is also multiplayer, something only a few popular rogue-lites include. Endless Dungeon releases to Nintendo Switch at an unspecified time in 2023.

4 – Ib:

Ib is one of the older games on this being released in 2012 but nonetheless it is one of the most interesting and unique games I have ever encountered. It is a 2D pixel horror game, certainly an interesting combination of genres. You play as the character Ib, stuck in a paranormal art gallery full of traps and hidden items. The player must explore the art gallery and use the items you find to escape and your way back to your family. I can’t wait to see how the unique stylistic choices merge with the horror element. Ib will release to Nintendo Switch sometime in spring 2023.

3 – Factorio:

Similar to more popular games like Cities: Skylines, the Sims, and with dash of Satisfactory, Factorio is a rugged resource collection game where you can design complex factories, hence the name, to produce different resources and fight off the enemies trying to attack your base. Seeing your bases come together in a perfect mix of hard work and beautiful automation is truly fulfilling and I can’t wait to delve into the game. Factorio releases to Nintendo Switch October 28th 2022.

2 – Octopath Traveler II:

Octopath Traveler is one of my favorite games ever. In the game you collect a party of 4 characters, out of 8 options, and travel around the continent of Orsterra. All the characters fill common fantasy tropes but have robust stories that motivate them to travel. And the way the game is designed takes classic pixel art and merges it with the beautiful lighting capable with modern tech. This time the setting appears to be somewhat steampunky. With all the new characters we have I can’t wait to see how their stories will play you. Octopath Traveler II releases to Nintendo Switch on February 24th, 2023.

1 – Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom:

Finally, the game that I am most excited about. Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel to the 25th best selling video game of all time, Breath of the Wild, and promises a direct expansion of its predecessor’s story. Breath of the Wild is literally my favorite game ever and I can’t wait for this to release. Introducing a new area to explore, the sky, and teasing movement options never before possible in the form of flying mechanisms and the ability to melt through walls. Tears of the Kingdom promises to build on the already pretty intriguing hints of history scattered throughout its predecessor. Tears of the Kingdom launches on May 12th 2023.
