During this year’s MTV music video awards, many artists went home with a full heart, and a handful of awards. Music sensations such as Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow and Lil Nas X were given awards, while others went home empty handed, after barely winning the award.

Best Hip-Hop- “Do We Have a Problem?” (Nicki Minaj ft. Lil Baby)

Best Rock- “Black Summer” (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

Best Alternative- “ I Wanna Be Your Slave” (Maneskin)

Best Latin- “Envolver” (Anitta)

Best R&B- “Out of Time” (The Weeknd)

Best Kpop- LALISA (Lisa Manoban)

These artists all worked hard, and put in so much blood, sweat, and tears for this. The recipients of the awards were all incredible candidates for the awards. Or were they? Freshmen Akhil Mehta is one of the many who seem to have a different view on this. Mehta says “Jack Harlow should have won artist of the year because of his new album, and I thought it was really good.” Another freshman, Christine Aspen, also had a different view on who should have won artist of the year. “I think Harry Styles should’ve won because he is a great artist. He also produces music that everyone likes!” Aspen said.

A poll was sent out to the entire upper school students, to see who they thought should’ve won artist of the year. The student population believes that Harry Styles should’ve won with Lil Nas X as a close second. 

We also surveyed the Upper School Staff on who they thought should have won Artist of the Year. Spanish teacher Mrs. Navarro believes that Lizzo should have won. For the upper school teacher community, most of them believe that Lizzo should have won the best artist of the year award. Although Ed Sheeran was a close second, with Harry Styles not far behind.

To wrap up, the MTV awards was a remarkable event enjoyed by many people around the country. Many fans went wild when their favorite artist won an award, and some fans had a disappointing night as their favorite artist just missed the award by a few votes.
