Movie Review: Enola Holmes 2
You may recognize the name Milly Bobby Brown from the famous show Stranger Things, but she’s also the star of the movie Enola Holmes. With part one coming out in September of 2020, sharing the story of a young woman, Enola, who is also the sister of Sherlock Holmes, part two just came out in November of 2022. In the first part, Enola Holmes traveled to London in an attempt to find her missing mother, and she ended up on a thrilling adventure and paired up with a runaway lord known as Lord Tewksbury. Part two didn’t fail to bring excitement as Enola Holmes took on her first case as a real detective, trying to unravel the mystery behind a missing girl and having to join forces with friends and her brother Sherlock.
To watch the second part, it’s not entirely necessary to have seen the first part. Enola Holmes 2 begins with a quick recap of part one and then gets into Enola’s new life as a real detective. However, business goes quite the opposite of what she imagined, and soon, Enola ends up having no choice but to close her office. Just as she’s packing up, a young girl comes to her place and reports her missing sister, Sarah Chapman, who worked at a huge match factory during the day and a dance hall at night. Enola gets cracking on the case right away, going into the warehouse herself and discovering several clues. The story only gets more suspenseful and interesting from there as Enola discovers she’s got herself in a situation way bigger than just finding Sarah Chapman.
The movie’s main character is, of course, Milly Bobby Brown. Also seen in the first film, there are many moments where Brown breaks the fourth wall and speaks directly to the audience. Brown gives Enola a personality that makes her incredibly likable and easily connectable to the audience, especially for young women. Lord Tewkesbury is played by Louis Patridge, and Enola and Tewesbury’s love interest adds an aspect of charm to the movie. There are other characters that are very important to the storyline as well: Sherlock Holmes played by Henry Cavill, Sarah Chapman played by Hannah Dodd, Superintendent Grail played by David Thewlis, among several others.
Enola Holmes 2 was released only on Netflix, and I watched the movie in the comfort of my room which I found very enjoyable. The movie is a little over two hours long, but with the humor, love interests, and mystery, overall I rarely got bored of watching the movie.
The storyline pays tribute to a real-life historical movement that occurred, and the director, Harry Bradbeer, did a great job of incorporating a powerful message into the story. With suspense, humor, and more, Enola Holmes 2 is a fantastic movie to watch when you’re cruising through Netflix, unsure of what you’re feeling about watching.
