Recipe: Arroz Con Leche

A warm recipe for a cold day.

Arroz con leche (translated as rice pudding) is a dish that comes from many different parts of the world. This specific recipe comes from Mexico and is eaten as a dessert or snack. Arroz con leche is an easy, yet delicious, dish to make for these really chilly winter days. Although you could find this dish in the Hispanic super markets here in town, it’s always best freshly cooked at home. This recipe was chosen because of its popularity in Hispanic households and its flexibility with ingredients. This dish can be personalized to one’s liking. Raisins can be added, there are different types of lechera to choose from, and the milk can be chosen to your preference. So if you’re ever craving a warm, home-cooked snack, arroz con leche is the way to go!

Ingredients:

Milk (any type you prefer)

La lechera 

Water

Rice

Sugar 

Cinnamon stick 

Cinnamon spice (optional)

Directions:

In a pan, add 6 cups of milk

Add 1 tablespoon of la lechera 

Set stove to medium heat and stir 

Add 1.5 cups of rice 

Add 3 cups of water

Add one cinnamon stick

Add a tablespoon of sugar

Let it sit for about 20-30 minutes (check on it periodically) 

Pour into bowl 

Add cinnamon spice (optional)
