Highlights of the BT Cheer Team!
Cheer season has almost come to an end and it’s the perfect time to reflect back on a great season.
The year started off with a four-day cheer camp in July introducing new skills and tricks to the newest members. Current freshman Joslyn Stamp expressed “Going into the camp as a new member was very nerve-racking, it was difficult to pick up on choreography and stunting but by the end, we performed and won the spirit stick award.” These new skills were performed wonderfully at the first performance of the year, the first football game halftime show. The performance was a great kickstart to the football season. From August through October, the cheerleaders celebrated their school spirit by participating in the different themes for football games and also starting their practices for competition season!
As for the winter season, the BT cheerleaders were very busy doing sideline cheers for the girl’s and boys’ basketball games and preparing for their first competitions leading up to State! While preparing for their competitions, the team would often take trips down to Cheer Athletics to learn and practice their state routines with coaches Carlos and Eli: “Learning the routines was very challenging but rewarding.”After attending a few competitions the routines were edited and cleaned up for the better, but while on the journey to State, the team had a dilemma. Unfortunately, a team member had been affected by an injury during an early morning practice that took her out for the rest of the season (including state). The pressure was on. The team was now working harder then ever to reset formations and learn a few new parts.
After two weeks… it was time for state. The day started with a practice at 12:30 pm, then hopped on the bus at 2:00 to head on their way to Grand Island. The girls were ready to perform two routines, Game Day then Non-Building Non-Tumbling. Makeup was done, hair was braided and uniforms were on. The event lasted from 5:00pm to 11:00pm and as the girls went home they carried their state runner-up Game Day award with them. Not only did the girls win second place but they also received the highest score ever on a routine!
The BT cheerleaders had an eventual year filled with hard work, determination, and success. They started with a four-day cheer camp, learning new skills, and winning the spirit stick award. They continued to showcase their school spirit by participating in different themes for football games and preparing for competition season. Despite an injury, they persevered and worked even harder, adjusting to their formations and learning new parts. Their dedication paid off, and they earned the state-runner-up award and received the highest score they’ve ever gotten on a routine! The girls’ hard work and journey are a testament to the power of teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit!
