Welcome to the very first issue of Verbatim for the 2023–2024 school year! Just as previous years, the Verbatim staff is excited to bring you another year of great stories. Whether you’re looking to read about BT’s students and campus life or wanting to listen to informative podcasts, our student publication is one for you.
As you go through Verbatim, you’ll see many continuing podcasts from last year such as Making Sense with Mr. Smith and Raider Rush. The fun and entertaining Angelic Analysis podcast will be back, having Mrs. Rise and Mr. Hamel trying some back-to-school snacks.
Our Senior Snapshot stories will once again continue this year, with the first one shining light on Mia Hatcher. These stories will bring the positive and friendly faces of the Class of 2024 to light, bringing them the spotlight one last time before they too move on. As for the student council article, it brings focus to the officers of BT’s upper school, highlighting the fundraisers planned and how these students will continue to improve and lead our school as a great example.
A highlight of the summer was undoubtedly the rivalry between two releasing movies: Barbie and Oppenheimer. Whether you went to the movie theater in pink from head to toe or in a long black coat, our feature story on “Barbenheimer” will be one you definitely want to read. The article brings to light the themes of the two movies and short plot reviews.
If you’re looking to dive deeper into BT’s campus culture, our vape detector story and back-to-school story are for you. The back-to-school story will touch on the different fall sports happening including volleyball, football, and cheer as well as House inductions and new school policies, while the vape detector story will bring attention to this new implementation, looking at the reasoning behind them and how they will impact the school.
A recurring story from last year are the restaurant reviews, with this month’s story reviewing Blue Sushi Sake Grill. If you’re looking for new places to try out in Omaha, you won’t want to miss these articles. There is also an article focusing on Florence, Italy which analyzes and discusses a variety of artworks there since one of Verbatim’s staff, Violet Vacanti, took a trip there this past summer. Many of BT’s students attended the P!nk concert recently but if you didn’t don’t worry because our concert review story recapped the marvelous night.
Enjoy the September issue of Verbatim!
