For the October issue of Verbatim, Community Voices are back once again. As the ghosts in the graveyard and spooky decorations come out, we asked members of the BT community what their favorite traditions of Halloween are.
“I love handing out candy to all the kids. I prefer to be at home and see the cute costumes rather than walking out in the cold.”
-Katie Picard, ’25
“I celebrate ‘Día de los muertos’ by going to the cemetery, decorating the graves of family members, and eating foods that our loved ones liked. We tell stories and share good memories of the family and friends who are not with us anymore. It is a huge celebration in El Salvador, and nobody works on November 2nd.”
-Evelyn Navarro, Spanish Teacher and Freshmen Class Sponsor
“Every year, my family throws a Halloween party for the block. We barbecue burgers and ribs, and everyone hangs out, eats food, and has a fun time.”
-Annabelle DeWater, ’27
“For Halloween, I typically just walk around with my daughter and her friends for a couple of hours. Afterwards, I try to steal all the best candy from her bag.”
-Mark Smith, History Teacher, Junior Class Sponsor, and Tennis Coach
