As senior year rolls along for the class of 2023, it’s a time of stress for the seniors with college application deadlines approaching. Though, the nostalgia of senior traditions accompanies the stress, creating a bittersweet mix of emotions. For Verbatim, we’ll take a look at some different seniors, taking a snapshot of their life and sharing their story with all.
Senior Sidra Miller has been at Brownell Talbot since eighth grade. She shared, “I love the connection that I get to build with the teachers and other students because I feel like I know everyone at least semi-decently.”
Sidra participates in a wide range of activities on campus, including Academic Decathlon, NHS, GSA, and serving as the senior class secretary. In the past, Sidra has been a part of robotics and said, “Some of my favorite memories were created from robotics tournaments because it was really fun to watch other teams compete, and I also got to spend time with my own team members.”
While each year of high school has a special meaning in itself, for Sidra junior year was her favorite: “For the most part, I really enjoyed most of the classes I took such as Physics, AP English Language and Composition, and APUSH.” While physics is a challenging subject, Sidra found the positives in the class.
Sidra is looking forward to the senior trip the most out of all the senior traditions. Beyond that, as her high school years come to an end, she shared, “I feel scared but also excited because I really need a fresh start. High school was amazing and I made great memories, but I’m also excited to make more and I feel like it’ll be even better because I know myself a little more now.”
College applications may seem daunting, but Sidra shared that it hasn’t been too bad for her: “It’s stressful trying to get everything turned in, but also exciting because once it’s over and I get in somewhere, I know it’ll be smooth from there.
Sidra’s advice for underclassmen was a crucial one: “Don’t let the academic pressure get to you and make you feel dumb. I know the environment at BT has an easy way of doing that, but just know that generally speaking, all of us are way smarter than we think. Also, try your hardest because it will make everything feel more rewarding in the end.”
