If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to increase your game, pick-up games are for you. This cost-effective way to get additional touches consists of players of all ages and skill levels scrimmaging among other players. We have been going to Papillion Landing’s pick-up games nearly every Thursday since the summer of 2023. The appeal of these pick-up games is found in the varied group of participants, covering a wide range of ages and skill levels. Beyond being an opportunity to engage in volleyball, it serves as a fantastic platform for forging new connections and socializing in a friendly environment. The welcoming atmosphere fosters a sense of inclusivity, bringing together both experienced players and novices for an enjoyable evening. This being said, drastic changes occurred; Monday’s pick-up games were canceled and basketball practices cut our time short. We decided that this would be a good time to review these games and compare them to the other options we have available in our home, Nebraska. This would help benefit ourselves as well as other aspiring volleyball players who plan to augment their game.
When we first heard that Papillion Landing was offering a cheap and diverse way to play volleyball, we were immediately enticed. Our first impression of pick-up games was full of nothing but joy and solace. Volleyball was something we both were determined to improve in meaning it was perfect for us. Over time, we’ve learned the ups and downs of inclusive volleyball; whether it’s the joy of making a new friend or the low of messing up. The important thing to remember when you’re having a low in a game setting such as this is the support you’re likely to receive among players. Every single time we’ve gone, the environment has brought us both immense support and mirthful laughter.
Among the groups that use Papillion Landing’s space for private practices or sports clubs, Lightning Volleyball’s basketball team is the most prominent in the winter and spring. This organization focuses on the inclusion of homeschooled students and allows them to participate on both JV and varsity teams. They offer boys and girls teams for sports such as volleyball and basketball. This is just one of the many volleyball examples where a group’s goal is to bring people together through a familiar sport they can enjoy. While not everyone may resonate with the traits of a social butterfly, the array of enticing experiences on this remarkable platform is boundless. Whether it’s conveniently close to your home or elsewhere, the combination of socializing and engaging in a beloved sport became our favorite activity.
Can you dig it like we did?
