As the end of the first semester approaches, the realization that their high school years are coming to an end is setting in with the senior class. It’s a time of stress, excitement, and bittersweet moments, but with the new semester next year will come fun senior traditions as well. For Verbatim, we’ll take a look at a few different seniors this year, taking a snapshot of their life and sharing their story with all.
Daniel Lindarev has been at Brownell Talbot for three years and shared, “I love the interconnectedness of BT and the vibrant community it creates.” On campus, Daniel is a part of many different activities and groups, including track, Academic Decathlon, Math Competition, sports club, and the Head of School Student Advisory Council. He is also the treasurer of the National Honors Society, working with other students to try and pursue more community service around BT. When asked what some of his favorite memories from these activities were, Daniel said, “I loved winning the Gold medal for the science category at Academic Decathlon State. I also enjoyed breaking five minutes in the mile for track.”
One of Daniel’s favorite classes in high school has been Acadec: “Mr. Smith has a lot of fun with everything and makes learning enjoyable. Also, doing JetPunk quizzes is a lot of fun.” When asked what his favorite grade was, he responded, “I would have to say my favorite was ninth grade. I had a lot of freedom at my school and we were allowed to go explore the woods behind the campus and eat out there for lunch. We also had Wednesday off every week and just had some minimal assignments which were still mentally stimulating. Also, the larger student body was very well connected and we were all alike so it created an exciting environment.”
Along with being a senior comes exciting senior traditions. Daniel shared, “I am looking forward to senior sunrise and senior prank. I hope to have one last hurrah with my fellow classmates and troll the underclassmen a little and lighten the mood.”
When thinking about college, Daniel shared a bit about the process: “The college application process is exciting but can also be very stressful. If you apply to a lot of colleges, like I did, there will be a stress factor, but after a while it becomes pretty easy. You know what to do and you fly through them, but awaiting the decisions is the true stress inducer. You have to wait months and when the date for decisions nears, you start to worry. However, the acceptance letters make it all worth it in the end.” For Daniel, starting a new chapter of his life next fall is an exciting thought. He said, “I am very excited to see a new community and build new relationships in college. I enjoy spending time with the student body at BT, but seeing new faces will be very refreshing and exciting.”
Daniel ended by sharing a piece of advice for underclassmen: “I would say have fun with your learning because if you enjoy it, you are more likely to understand it.”
