Winter break is an exciting time that everyone on campus looks forward to, especially students. It’s a great time to try new activities, participate in favorite holiday traditions, or simply find the time for a much needed mental break after a hard working semester. Here are just a few examples of what students and families did over this last winter break.
Mia Hatcher
This winter Mia’s family visited Crested Butte, Colorado, where they spent their time snowboarding and skiing, a tradition they have held for 14 years. According to Mia,”It was really cold but we didn’t get much snow while we were there. This tradition is one of our favorite things to do together as a family!”
Olivia Grogan
Over this chilly holiday break Olivia spent time with friends and visited the new Riverfront Iceskating Rink. Earlier in the year a “skate ribbon” was opened as part of the new riverfront development down near the Old Market, which has been converted to iceskating for the winter. Olivia reflected, “Over winter break my friends and I went Downtown to ice skate. It was so pretty Downtown with all the Christmas lights and we had a lot of fun!”
Joslyn Stamp
Over winter break Joslyn also spent time with friends. One of the many activities she did was make a gingerbread house along with drinking a warm hot chocolate. “Making gingerbread houses with my friend Angel Bhandari was extremely exhilarating and pushed our creativity over the course of a great winter break,” enthused Joslyn.
Amelia Nelson
This past winter break was filled with pretty snowflakes and even several inches of snow on Christmas Day. As for Amelia’s case, she had so much snow around her area that she was stuck home most of Winter Break. This may have been a little boring for Amelia at first but she explained it actually caused her to be very productive and spend quality time with her family. Amelia noted, “I got to read a lot of my English book that was assigned to me and liked having the downtime to relax.”
