Stray Dogs, the 1949 noir film directed by Akira Kurosawa takes place in a hot Tokyo summer where Murakami (played by actor Toshirô Mifune) discovers his gun has been stolen. However, the young detective’s want to save face leads to him discovering his gun in the midst of a crime spree.

I watched this movie on my own time (it’s free on Youtube) and decided to make studies of the film this month because of the interesting compositions I found in the scenes. That being said I’m also very fond of the advertisements for this film, hence why I used so many of them as references. (Additionally, it lended to good practice for drawing faces.)

The movie itself was entertaining however I’d have to give it a second watch to truly give a recommendation. That being said, if you’re interested in a Japanese noir crime thriller following an amateur homicide detective, then go give it a watch.
