Dear Jasper,
I have a predicament. My friends are trying to commit to a New Year’s resolution, but they don’t ever follow through. How do I encourage them to follow their resolutions? And how do I keep myself on track to accomplish my resolutions in the future?
Sincerely,
Nervous Nancy
Dear Nervous Nancy,
Alright, let’s get real: resolutions don’t magically happen because you thought about them. You need a plan. Step one? Get your life together. Use a planner, a calendar, or whatever keeps you on track, and schedule time for your goals like it’s the most important meeting of your life—because it is. And babe, if you’re canceling on yourself, that’s a YOU problem. Lazy? Tired? Cry me a river, build a bridge, and jog across it. Priorities. Your resolutions aren’t optional, so stop treating them like one of your talking stages when you’re bored. Too tired? Boohoo. Put on some comfy clothes, chug an energy drink, and get it done. And, stop obsessing over who’s leaving you on read—focus on something that actually benefits your future. Resolutions aren’t here to babysit your feelings—they’re here to make you better unlike your romantic relationships. So stop waiting for that girl or boy to snap you back, and start working. If you’ve already flopped, stop sulking, pick yourself up, and get back to work. Tools are your best friend, so use them. A journal, an app, sticky notes, a loud alarm that screams DO YOUR WORK—whatever it takes. Post it, shout it, whatever—because you earned that, unlike Susie who’s still “manifesting” her glow-up from her bed. Oh, and stop overbooking yourself with things that don’t matter. Your resolutions aren’t second-string to brunch plans or Netflix binges. If something unavoidable comes up, fine—but fix it fast. Don’t let your goals turn into an afterthought because you “got busy.” Bottom line: resolutions don’t care about your excuses. You either show up for them, or you don’t—and if you don’t, that’s on you. Get organized, stay disciplined, and slay your goals like the boss you are. And remember Pitbull’s “Everyone going through tough times, he’s been there and done that” so everyday above ground is a great day remember that. Or don’t—and stay the same. Your choice!
Later,
Jasp
