It’s officially 2025 and BT’s girls basketball team has been battling through their difficult winter season. In celebration of their hard work, this edition of Revered Raiders has brought assistant coach and BT alumn William Calderon to our attention.
Calderon’s current occupation is that of an Environmental Engineer at Olsson engineering firm.
How did attending BT help you get to your current status?
“BT had me well prepared for college. I studied chemical engineering, minored in music, and graduated with honors. This was a rigorous path, but working hard in high school had me ready to pursue any program I wanted! Additionally, connections I made while at BT helped me successfully apply to the Civil Engineering master’s program at UNL that made me an ideal candidate for my eventual dream job.”
What are some plans you have for the future?
“I will hopefully get married soon and keep coaching basketball while advancing my career at Olsson, which has been a fantastic place to work.”
How do you give back to BT?
“I’m an assistant coach for the girls basketball team. I played basketball myself while at BT, and I am a strong believer in the intangibles that sports teach high schoolers that can then translate to the working world. It’s a privilege to help the student-athletes get better at basketball and learn values like working on a team, communicating with peers and superiors, and putting a little extra work in, even when you’re tired.”
Thanks to alum like Coach Calderon, we are able to have amazing sports community here at Brownell.
Here was some guidance he provided for current students!
“I’d advise BT kids to continue being kind and respectful to each other, even if they disagree. Your reputation as a person precedes you in life, and you never know the impact you can have on someone else, even from a small interaction!”
