While spring allergies remain persistent, students at Brownell Talbot College Preparatory School prepare themselves for the warmer weather to become even warmer and hope to make it to state for their favorite spring sports. At Brownell Talbot College Preparatory School, students are given endless opportunities to participate in countless athletic activities, including soccer, baseball, track, tennis, and golf. A high percentage of the students here enjoy signing up for a sport they’ve wanted to try for years because, thanks to the smaller community, more students are given a chance to join any extracurricular activity, and a more one-on-one connection can be made with coaches.
Thanks to Ronalli Catholic and Concordia Lutheran School of Omaha, we were given the right set of circumstances to play sports with students from their school. Both schools offer boys and girls soccer, tennis, as well as boys baseball, and students at Brownell Talbot also involve themselves in recreational athletic activities outside of the Brownell community. For instance, lacrosse is considered a “club” sport in Nebraska, and a good number of students here participate, which opens up a door for several other students interested in trying the sport.
While many students at our school enjoy being involved in athletic activities, others enjoy supporting their friends and family who enjoy participating in the extracurricular activities Brownell offers. The school is a very small, tight-knit community that has a large number of fans who attend athletic events, where some often include people who are students at the school.
With all thanks to the school, Brownell Talbot has a smaller community, whereas students see each other more often than any student at a public school, so the community is tighter. In our community, support is what keeps us thriving, and our favorite way to support each other is by being present at athletic events. ‘FNL,’ or Friday Night Lights, is the biggest high school sporting event in America, and it refers to the football games every Friday evening in the fall, where kick-off is traditionally at 7 p.m. each Friday at night, whether it’s a home or away game.
