The editors of The Ivy and the Ashlar are excited to begin accepting submissions for this year’s edition of Brownell Talbot’s creative journal. Our theme this year is “petrichor,” a recent coinage that gives a name to the distinctive aroma emitted by the earth after a rainstorm. We chose this theme because we like the association with spring, but also because it’s aspirational—in this time of drought, the reassurance that comes from something so simple as an afternoon rain shower gives hope for the continued verdancy and vitality of the planet.
Submissions do not need to align with the theme, and in fact we welcome any creative work produced by students, faculty, staff, and alumni in the past year, textual or visual. Poems written for classes, photographs taken on vacation, sketches made during downtime—we’re interested in a wide range of submissions, and we’re excited to see the great work created by the BT community again this year!
