This April, we spoke with sibling of BT senior, Jana, and, Owen. Their sister, Kate Ohnoutka, graduated 3 years ago and was happy to do the story!
What is your current occupation?
“I currently work as a phlebotomist at Bryan Health and I am also an undergraduate research assistant in an evolutionary biology lab along with being a senior in college on the premed track.”

How did attending BT help you get to your current status?
“A major skill that BT has given me is my work ethic. Being a student at BT, I was always pushed to be my best and persevere. Now in college, I have found this has carried over in not only my academics, but also with jobs and activities and has definitely contributed to my successes. Additionally, BT allowed me to freely explore my interests and learn more about myself through its countless extracurricular opportunities. I was able to do things I would have otherwise never seen myself doing, such as being a member of the competition math team, despite not always bringing home points for BT at competitions.”

What are some plans you have for the future?
“Thinking into the future, I plan on attending medical school after graduation and applying this summer. I will graduate college in December 2025 and work and save up money until medical school starts in the fall.”
How do you give back to BT?
“I have two siblings that are currently in high school at BT and are very involved in activities. Jana is a senior and Owen is a sophomore. I love to go to Owens football games and make sure I embarrass him by being the loudest person cheering in the stands and calling him out by name. As a former member of the girls basketball team as well, I enjoy going to games when I can to cheer on the team, sing along with the cheerleaders, and see my friend Avery in action! Of course it is nice to see and catch up with Mr. Dunlap as well.”

The alumn was excited to give some her wisdom to students attending BT today.
“My advice for current students, especially seniors, is that you don’t need to have everything figured out right now and you can’t get discouraged when things aren’t perfect. I have changed my major 3 different times and have transferred schools once and am still on track to graduate a semester early. Things are going to change and things are not going to always go your way. It is easy to get caught up in the bad moments and get anxious, but it’s important to remember that no matter what happens, you are going to end up okay.”
Ohnoutka also provided her contact information if anyone had questions.
