It’s Apple Pickin’ Season!

As cool weather settles in and apples ripen on the trees, this is the time of year to head out to an orchard for some wholesome you-pick-’em fun.
It's Apple Pickin' Season!

On the brisk morning of Saturday September 5th, Super Bee Orchard in Fort Calhoun, NE opened it gates to the apple-picking public. Anyone looking for Gala, Red Delicious, Jonathan, or Granny Smith were in luck because the trees at Super Bees were ripe for the taking. In less then thirty minutes a ambitious picker could return home with two dozen apples which is more then enough apples for a pie.

When visitors first arrive they can visit the store which sells many apple products, like donuts and jams, and also speak with the owners about the best apples to pick at the time. This weekend was peak time for Jonathan and Gala. The apple trees are scattered though out the orchard and visitors only need to take a short walk to fin what they are looking for. One of the owners said that it is ok to sample the product before picking to many but we recommend bringing water to rinse off the chemicals or other residue on the apples. After you filled your bag with the best looking apples you could find, make your way back to the barn and pay for your haul.

Super Bee Orchard is about a 25 minute drive from Brownell Talbot. Super Bee is open from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. They asked that all apples are picked and payed for by 5:00 PM. For the next month if you are looking for something fun to do then head the Fort Calhoun to pick some apples.
