Over the past few weeks, the new Stock Market Competition has made waves across campus as a new and upcoming endeavor for the most astute and academically motivated students at BT. The club’s founder, Gavin Vernon, seeks to provide a new opportunity for young entrepreneurs to stretch their wings and learn how to operate within the market, without the risk of blowing away their hard-earned cash. Operating every other Thursday afternoon, the club brings new meaning to the stock market, creating a fun and enticing way to compete amongst other academes across the globe.
One student, Cameron Vakili, has this to say about the upcoming endeavor:
The Wharton Stock Market Competition at Brownell Talbot contains two functioning teams, each containing five people. Each team will compete to create a stock portfolio for a judge who will critique them based off of many factors, such as the diversity of the portfolio, the use of both high and low risk stocks, among other necessities. With over 1800 competitors across the world, winning the challenge is no easy feat. However, if the BT teams pull it off, the grand prize is free guaranteed admission to any Wharton Global Youth Online Program of the team’s choice, as long as they place top 50.
Through all of the benefits of this new endeavor, one element shows itself to be of upmost importance for those participating in the club: fun. While an enticing reward of a wonderful learning opportunity is a great goal to have, building friendships and learning new skills is of the upmost importance for new club members. In order to fully capture all of the benefits of the club, it is important to remember to always be your best self.
