The Verbatim Insider’s Guide to Vala’s

If the trip to a Disney location still feels too hot, spend a cool day (or three) enjoying the autumnal adventures at Vala’s Pumpkin Patch and Apple Orchard in Gretna.
The Verbatim Insider's Guide to Vala's

The months are passing, the temperature is dropping (sort of), but hopefully your bank account is holding on strong because a trip to Valas this season is worth every penny. With fall in full swing, it’s important to know the essential does and don’ts of the 450-acre attraction park located just east of the Nebraska Crossing Outlets. A full map of the park can be seen here.

Let’s start with a fan favorite: food. Visitors can skip most food spots at Valas. The turkey legs are too dry, and the pie isn’t worth the wait. For something tasty without a long line, head to the Cider Mill for cold, crisp apple cider and a jumbo pretzel. Pretzels can be found elsewhere in the park, but none compare to the ones at the Cider Mill, which is located in the back of the park, across from the new Apple Swing (#22 on the map).

Another food highlight is the cookie cone from the Cookie Coop, located next to one of the few shows I recommend, the pig races. The races are happening every hour on the hour from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, except for at 3:00. If you’re planning to go on rides, try the egg scramble and Cousin Laurens’ Racing Pigs (#48). They’re fun, fast, and usually have short lines. Skip the roller coaster, since it’s a 30-minute wait for only a one-minute ride that barely moves. And be sure to hit the classic Valas train that goes around the park, or the Nick and Marty tractor pull.

For photos, get a classic shot in the big chair before noon so the sun isn’t in your eyes. Other good photo spots include the hayrack ride, the bridge across from the train, and the flower field near the Cider Mill, especially at golden hour or sunset for optimum lighting. For nighttime photos, visit the Hackberry Hideout to capture pictures under the lights.

These tips can make or break your Valas trip this season, so spend the money, go early, and enjoy an amazing fall outing!
