On Tuesday night, the Brownell Talbot Varsity Volleyball team prevailed in their final conference match against College View Academy with a 3–0 sweep, which means that the team has won the Frontier Conference Championships. With a current record of 20-7, the team is heading to Subdistricts, where they have to win three matches to make it to Districts. If they win Districts, then they get to go to State.
The Varsity team went undefeated at the conference, with a final 11-0 record. Their winning game was against College View Academy, who pushed them to their limits. Brownell came on top with a nail biting win: 25-20 in the first set, 25-23 in the second, and 25-23 in the third.
The starting seven of the team, since there are two middle blockers, are Olivia Grogan, Abbi Gibbs, Avery Nichols, Quinn Iverson, Becky Hoban, Violet Vacanti, and Ana Gibbs. The rest of the Varsity girls are Nya Ping, Elsa White, Angela Hensley, Addi Vigneri, Cordyllia Kpodar, Meelah Haase, and Savannah Sanger.
The team recently got a new coach, Coach Darion White, who has truly proved his good coaching after leading the girls to success. Because of him, they have had a better record than they have in a long time, and have secured another victory in the Frontier Conference championship! The team describes him as a good leader and great coach. He’s known for being detail oriented and helping the team work hard and reach their fullest potential.
The final point of last night’s game was very memorable for most of the players, as the team crowded the court. Abbi Gibbs made a perfect pass to setter Becky Hoban, and outside hitter Quinn Iverson jumped for the ending kill.
The team is estatic with their win and ready to start sub-districts with the best seating they have had in a while. This conference win marks the second year in a row with a successful game that the team is proud of. This year’s seniors, Abbi Gibbs, Avery Nichols, Angela Hensley, Olivia Grogan, Violet Vacanti, and Nya Ping, led the team throughout the game with countless dimes, kills, and assists. The energy coming from the BT Raiders was unimaginable and they are so greatful for the crowd’s enthusiasm. The Raider Volleyball team will take this energy into their next games and try their best to dominate during sub-districts.
Varsity’s subdistricts will be either next Monday or Tuesday, and the more support the better. Come out to watch the volleyball team and cheer them on!
