Friday, October 15th marked an important day in the lives of every Adele fan across the world: the release of Adele’s first song in six years. Titled “Easy On Me,” Adele wanted to create a song highlighting the divorce she is currently going through with Simon Konecki. Adele and Konecki were married for 7 years prior to the divorce, and had one son out of the relationship, Angelo. Their son expressed concern and confusion to Adele regarding the divorce. He asked his mother, Adele, questions that she didn’t have an answer to such as “Why do you have to live in separate places.” Adele felt remorseful for ruining her child’s innocence, which she expresses in the song.

The release of “Easy On Me” is Adele’s hit single in her upcoming album “30.” When Adele produces albums, she titles them after the age she is when she produces the album— meaning she is currently 30 years old. She has released albums titled “19,” “21,” “25,” and now “30.” While all of Adele’s albums have been successful, her upcoming album, “30,” is projected to be one of the most successful of them all. Not even 24 hours after the release of the song, “Easy On Me” broke the record for the most streams in a single day on Spotify, coming in at 24 million plays. In addition, “Easy On Me” set the Amazon record for “the most first day Alexa song requests” in Amazon history on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Brownell Talbot student Sophie Reimer, ’23 enjoys listening to Adele’s music and views her music as deserving of the attention it is getting and records it is setting: “Adele has been missing on the music scene and she did not disappoint with easy on me. This single makes me look forward to listen to the rest of the album.”
