Senior Snapshot: Clare Miller-Petznick
This fall, Clare Miller-Petznick took part in the Brownell Talbot Musical production of “The Little Mermaid.” Clare took character as an eel along with senior Audrey Klinefelter.
“I have really enjoyed this role with Audrey and getting to have a lead role my senior year,” said Clare. “I have to do a lot of stretching so I can slither around and do more fluid movements.”
The fall musical was a great success this year, with tickets sold out before many had the chance to buy one. “My favorite high school memory has been participating in the annual musical,” the senior reflected.
Along with participating in the musical, Clare is dance captain on the BT Cheer Team. As one of the five seniors on the cheer team, Clare has been an impactful leader on this year’s team. “I have loved seeing the team come together and work towards one goal,” that goal is to win state cheer. “I love this year’s state cheer dance,” Clare stated.
“There are a lot of rolls and difficult jumps in the routine, but I think they will add levels and more enthusiasm.” This year, the cheer team performed in a showcase at Gross Catholic on November 12th. The team will receive critiques from judges at the showcase. They will use the same cheer and dance routine at state cheerleading this spring.
Last season, the BT cheer team got first place for their game-day routine at state. “I could not sleep the night before State Cheer sophomore year and drank 9 cups of coffee,” said Clare. Coming into the season, expectations for this year’s team were high.
Over the summer, the cheer team participated in three eight-hour-long camps and started practice before the season even started. During the school year, they practice at least once a week, about which Clare commented that, “Every year, the BT Cheer Team continues to improve and bring even more energy.”
For many seniors, this year has been stressful and busy.
Clare is planning on studying psychology to further her research on mental health. “My junior year, I did a research paper on incorporating mental health resources in schools,” said Clare. “That paper has increased my passion for mental health.”
College applications, scholarships, and other commitments besides, senior year is rumored to be the most exciting. Clare is hoping so: “I am super excited to have more free time and to enjoy the last semester with my friends.” Clare and the other cheerleaders look forward to seeing familiar faces at state, and encourage everyone from the BT community to attend and cheer them on!
