As a new school year begins, the senior class is filled with a mix of excitement and nostalgia. It’s a year to reflect on the past, embrace the present, and look forward to the future. With one final year ahead, the Class of ‘25 is ready to make it the best one yet, with every moment serving as a chance to make lasting memories. For the first senior spotlight, we’ll highlight social media specialist Katie Picard, taking a snapshot of her life and sharing her story with all.
Katie has been at Brownell Talbot since fourth grade. She said, “I love the community at BT and how close everyone is. It feels like one big family.”
On campus, Katie participates in a number of activities: volleyball, theatre, science olympiad, cheer, and journalism. Off campus, she plays club volleyball. When asked what her favorite memories are from these activities, she said, “My favorite thing is playing home games for volleyball and performing the fall musical every year.”
When it comes to senior year, Katie is feeling sad because she loves BT and doesn’t want to grow up. She said, “I’m looking forward to senior sunrise, and the retreat at the beginning of the year was fun.” She has a feeling senior year will be her favorite year yet: “I have more free time during the day. Eleventh grade was also really fun because I enjoyed most of my classes.” Katie has been enjoying her government class so far: “I think it’s really interesting to learn more about the world and get a refresher on America’s political system.”
Katie has committed to Doane University to play volleyball for four more years. She shared, “Volleyball is so much of my life and I’m happy my career doesn’t have to end after this year. Doane really reminded me of BT because the classes are small and everyone knows everyone. The campus is beautiful and everyone is very nice, so my decision was pretty easy.”
To end, Katie shared some important advice for underclassmen: “I would say to savor your time as a teenager because you’ll never be as young as you are right now.”
