Community Voices: What’s up with Lunch?

With the return of FLIK Dining Service to the Brownell Talbot Worthington Dining Hall, many opinions have been formed regarding the quality of the food, variety of food, length of the lunch period, and more. When asked about Brownell Talbot’s lunch service, here is what four members of the Brownell Talbot Community had to say:

As a mom, I got very tired of packing the same boring foods for my children each day, so I am happy that there are a variety of lunch options available.

“I am very happy that BT has returned to having a daily dining service… Although I wish we could have more than three individuals at a table at a time, I completely understand the safe-guard and I am glad we are taking this safety precaution as a school. I do wish that the upper school students and teachers had a longer lunch period.”

hopefully eating lunch outside allows students to take a pause and ground themselves while eating food with friends

“I love that Flik is back! I think that giving students the choice to eat outside is a great way to get out into nature, take advantage of our beautiful campus, and it has the bonus of being safer in the context of COVID. Students’ days at school are often packed and sometimes one can feel like they are rushing from place to place.”

-Brianna Vander Vorst, School Counselor, House Dean, and BT Parent

I’m really grateful for FLIK making a return because I don’t have to make my own lunch the night before anymore.

“I don’t usually sit inside because the weather has been nice and we can have more people together when sitting outside. The lunch period being short was kind of a hard adjustment because it’s much less time than it was last year, but I think it’s fine now that schools been going on for a bit.”

Being able to eat outside so far has been nice and the range of food options has improved.

“I think that there are good things and bad things with FLIK returning… On the other hand, though, the lunch period being shorter is a weird decision and the food quality hasn’t been terrible but nothing great either.”
