Over the years, the halftime show has become just as exciting as the game itself. Many famous artists have taken the stage, each bringing their own style to the table. The halftime show began in 1967 as a modest marching band showcase featuring bands such as the University of Arizona and Grambling State University bands. They were marching band-focused until the early 1990s, when major celebrities such as Michael Jackson started to showcase at the event. And, with the closure of Super Bowl LX, its time to determine just which halftime show holds the crown for the greatest 15-minute performance of all time.

In my opinion, Bruno Mars delivered the best halftime show due to his incredible energy, live vocals, tight band, and ability to entertain without distractions from the music. During Super Bowl XLVII, he opened the 15-minute set with a drum solo. Showing his great skill on other instruments other than just vocals that can be auto-tuned or modified live takes immense skill. His talent was also shown through his excellent dancing. Mars’ performance felt timeless and exciting, which is why I think his halftime show remains the best in Super Bowl history.

I believe the best halftime show by any artist or group was Prince’s performance during Super Bowl XLI. The iconic performance exhibits his innate ability to captivate a crowd through vibrant showmanship and musicianship. Furthermore, his raw vocals and guitar playing took place on a massive rain soaked stage, in the shape of his iconic love symbol. Most memorably, amidst a torrential downpour, the show concluded with a triumphant performance of his hit song Purple Rain.

My favorite Super Bowl Halftime Show has to be Super Bowl LVI with Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. Throughout their nostalgic-filled, high energy set, the performers brought forth a powerful performance that encapsulated the early 2000’s hip-hop wave. The performers’ stage presence enamored the crowd, showcasing the true timelessness of their music. The overall nostalgic aura and high-energy mood that the performance gave off created one of the most remarkable Half Time shows in recent history. Too bad it was wasted on a Rams game…
