Senior Snapshot: TG Su

TG Su has been part of the BT community for fifteen years, growing up alongside the school and forming connections that have extended into lifelong friendships. What they appreciate most about BT is how deeply those connections linger, shaping who they are even after chapters seem to end or friendships aren’t as strong as they once were. The BT community has consistently encouraged their creativity, growth, and individuality, something they deeply admire.

Throughout their time at BT, TG has been heavily involved in the arts. They participate in orchestra, playing both bass and cello, as well as journalism, National Art Honor Society, and National Honor Society. In NAHS, TG served as the project head for the most recent mural, taking on a leadership role that helped teach them leadership skills along with their natural creativity. They are also deeply involved in theatre, where they serve as the head of costumes for BT shows. Many of their off-campus commitments are tied to orchestra and NAHS, proving their love for the arts throughout high school.

Some of TG’s favorite memories come from orchestra and theatre. During orchestra concerts, the ensemble often includes a surprise accessory or costume for one of their pieces, a tradition TG loved to help execute. Picking up the bass and learning alongside different friends has also been meaningful as well. In theatre, TG has found a creative home in costume work, particularly during Hadestown, a production they deeply enjoyed working on with their friends. The hands-on process of creating costumes has been one of the most fulfilling parts of their time on campus.

Academically, one of TG’s favorite classes was pre-calculus with Mrs. Rise last year. They connected with her teaching style, enjoyed the structure of the class, and appreciated the challenge it offered. The class also became a space where TG grew closer to one of their best friends, Eva, making it memorable for academics and personal life.

TG says junior year was one of their favorite years. During that time, they solidified many friendships, felt both challenged and supported academically, and began forming new connections, especially with seniors toward the end of the year. At the same time, TG notes that senior year has also been incredibly positive, marked by growth and the formation of even more friendships.

As graduation approaches, TG feels genuinely excited about what comes next. They’re eager to see what college life has in store and are especially looking forward to having more time and freedom to spend with their long-distance friends. TG has finished their college applications and has been accepted to their top choice, Bard College. Many of the schools they applied to were on the East Coast because those schools are close to siblings and extended family.

What TG will miss most about high school are their friends and the memories they’ve built together over the years. Those relationships have been central to their experience and remain what they value most about their time at BT.

When asked about a role model, TG points to one of their closest and longest friends, Addy. They admire Addy’s discipline and the steady example she’s provided throughout high school. TG is especially proud of achieving a stable balance between their academic and personal life and learning to trust the relationships they’ve built throughout high school. They describe their high school journey in one word: stability.

Since freshman year, TG has grown on the inside and out. significantly. Beyond changes in style or appearance, they’ve become more confident and less anxious and have started to settle into who they are. They describe their current mindset as one they once wished to have, where they have grown into a place of comfort, confidence, and self-trust.

To unwind during the school year, TG stays physically active, having picked up lifting in freshman year and continuing to work out four to five times a week, as it helps them release energy after long stretches of schoolwork. They also enjoy drawing, listening to music, and diving into new hobbies. Recently, they’ve been especially interested in chainmail and have continued their creative spark with this hands-on activity.

Looking ahead to life after graduation, TG is most excited to spend the summer with friends, both locally and out of state. They’ll also be returning to Interlochen for their fifth and final year as a camper. Over the years, Interlochen has helped TG develop artistic skills they deeply cherish, including metalsmithing. Additionally, they’ve created friendships they plan to cherish for life. They’re hopeful about applying for a TA position there next year, so their journey does not end but instead continues differently.
