As Halloween creeps around, Haunted houses all around Omaha become popular places. BT Verbatim asked students at Brownell Talbot about their favorite haunted house experiences for thrill seekers and fall lovers.
1.) What is the Scariest Haunted House you’ve ever visited?
When asked about the scariest haunted house they’ve ever visited in the Nebraska/Iowa area, many students responded with local favorites such as Blood Rush and Scary Acres. In total, Blood Rush received four votes as students’ favorite. Sophomore, Noli Marsh said, “Blood Rush is my favorite, especially when going with friends.” Even was more popular than Blood Rush was Scary Acres which received eight votes in total. When asked about their favorite haunted houses, Senior TG Su responded: “Scary Acres is my favorite haunted house, especially The House on the Hill.”
2.) What is your least favorite Haunted house?
While there were lots of answers for haunted house favorites, not every haunted house hits the mark for BT students. Many students had differing opinions on the worst haunted house, with some students stating that their least favorite haunted house was another student’s favorite one. “The Forest haunted house in Scary Acres is my least favorite,” said senior Clarisa Marcano. While these responses were all over the place, there were some answers we received more than any others. More than any other place, voters chose the Bellevue Berry Farm as their least favorite haunted house in the area. Quinn Iverson stated, “The Berry Farm haunted house is the worst I’ve been to.”
3.) What is your favorite thing about haunted houses?

People love haunted houses for all sorts of reasons: the environment, jump scares, or going with friends. Even if you’re not in love with frights, haunted houses can be the perfect fall activity. Senior, Violet Vacanti responded that, “My favorite thing about haunted houses is having a group of friends to go with; it makes the experience a fun time and we always have something to laugh about later.” While most people enjoyed going to haunted houses with friends for the simple act of hanging out, many students love haunted houses for their environment and scare factors.
4.) Would you rather go to a haunted house of go to another fall activity?
We realize that not everyone is a big fan of the scary aspects of Halloween, and a haunted house may not be everyone’s vibe. That’s why we asked the students of BT whether they would rather go to a haunted house this fall or go to another fall activity, such as a pumpkin patch, hayride, or other activity. The votes were almost evenly distributed. In the end, 48 percent of respondents said they would rather go to another fall activity, while 52 percent of students said they would rather visit a haunted house.
The Verbatim staff wishes these reviews and polls aid you this fall when deciding what activity to do. Whether that is going to a spooky, haunted house or visiting the playful environment of Vala’s Pumpkin Patch, there are truly endless activities that you can choose from. So, dress up, stay warm, and have a Happy Halloween from your Verbatim staff!
